On-Scene Incident Commander Training


Course Description
This course meets the requirements of 29 CFR 1919.120(q)(6)(v) and WAC 296-824-30005, providing prospective Incident Commanders with the knowledge and hands-on practice to manage an emergency response to hazardous materials incident.


Subjects include:

  • Use of the Incident Command System (reactive phase)
  • Implementing the site Emergency Response Plan
  • Working with outside agencies and responders
  • Hazard and risk assessment techniques
  • Hazards of working in chemical personal protective clothing
  • Decontamination procedures


The material is presented through a combination of case studies, first hand accounts, group activities and a tabletop exercise intended to reinforce Incident Commander roles and processes.
