Course Description
This course provides an introduction to an overview of the 14 elements of Process Safety Management. Each element is discussed, compliance examples are given, and current enforcement approaches are discussed. Students finish the course with a good understanding of the basic requirements of PSM.
2-Day Full Compliance Course: Development and Implementation of PSM for Ammonia Refrigeration Facilities
Course Design and Objectives
The two-day process safety management (PSM) training course teaches attendees how to systematically implement an effective and successful PSM program that not only meets regulatory compliance requirements, but becomes part of a company’s safety culture and everyday operations.
Specific OSHA requirements for each of the 14 PSM elements will be examined using practical, hands-on approaches. Interactive exercises will be employed to ensure that attendees gain mastery of the information. Each attendee will receive a notebook containing course presentation materials, example forms, and other information, all of which provide a foundation for improving PSM programs.
The course is designed to be interactive, so attendance is limited.

Who Should Attend
Anyone responsible for PSM program compliance and effective PSM implementation is advised to attend this course (plant managers, compliance officers, process safety managers, engineers, EH&S managers, operations and maintenance personnel, and/or other designated PSM representatives).
Instructors
Amy Duz is president of iWorkWise, a consulting company specializing in the practical application of safety regulations. She is a certified safety specialist, OSHA authorized trainer, Region 10 OSHA Institute trainer, and former manager of an OSHA VPP site (the first vessel in the United States to be admitted to OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program). Her experience with process safety management, risk management for ammonia refrigeration, HAZWOPER, and emergency response planning spans more than two decades.
Doug Weeks is a project manager at iWorkWise with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He is RETA CARO certified. Prior to joining iWorkWise, he worked for 10 years the maritime industry managing environmental programs, including waste management, discharge permit compliance, and performing compliance audits. Doug has also worked in the aerospace industry, as a facility engineer, environmental engineer and management systems auditor. He has operated data center HVAC and backup power systems, and marine steam plants.
Jane Robinson has extensive ammonia refrigeration experience and has been RETA certified since 1996. She has supervised and implemented PSM and RMP programs and successfully participated in many agency inspections. She also supervised and trained a large Level B HAZMAT team for more than ten years. As a former Plant Operations Engineer, Jane was responsible for a 3600 HP ammonia system for fourteen years. She also operated and managed a 6.6 megawatt diesel generated powerhouse. Jane is an OSHA authorized 501 trainer and a University of Washington Certified Safety Specialist.
