Hazardous Waste Operations & Emergency Response (HAZWOPER)
We prefer to train at your site, so employees can learn about their own equipment and how to respond to leaks in their own system; however, we can provide off-site training as needed. Training can be general, or specific to refrigeration systems, oil spill response, etc.
24-Hour Hazardous Materials Technician
Course Description
This course satisfies OSHA/DOSH/CAL OSHA requirements for those who respond offensively to stop a hazardous chemical release. Students successfully completing the course are certified as HAZWOPER Technicians. Topics covered include, but are not limited to, laws and regulation; incident command and notification; hazard recognition, assessment, and communication; respiratory protections; monitoring and instrumentation; PPE/chemical protective clothing; decontamination procedures; confined space hazard and assessment; lockout/tagout; and emergency response plans.
8-Hour First Responder/Operations Level
Course Description
This course is designed for those who respond defensively to hazardous chemical releases. These employees respond to spills as part of the initial response to protect nearby persons, property or the environment from the effects of the release. Topics covered include, but are not limited to, basic terminology and hazard and risk assessment techniques; selection and use of PPE; basic control, containment and confinement and decontamination procedures; DOT emergency response guidebook; and standard operating and termination procedures.
8-Hour Annual Refresher
Course Description
Annual refresher training is required for all by the HAZWOPER regulation.
Incident Commander Training
Course Description
This course meets the requirements of 29 CFR 1919.120(q)(6)9v) and WAC 296-824-30005, providing prospective Incident Commanders with the knowledge and hands-on practice to manage an emergency response to hazardous materials incident.
Subjects include:
- Use of the Incident Command System (reactive phase)
- Implementing the site Emergency Response Plan
- Working with outside agencies and responders
- Hazard and risk assessment techniques
- Hazards of working in chemical personal protective clothing
- Decontamination procedures
The material is presented through a combination of case studies, first hand accounts, group activities and a tabletop exercise intended to reinforce Incident Commander roles and processes.
